Registration of a Sole Trader

Today, the registration of a sole trader in Belarus is a fairly simple and quick procedure. But it does not mean that it still should be approached with all responsibility. Before the registration of a sole trader, we recommend you to evaluate all the advantages and all the risks associated with its maintenance, and only then start the process.

A sole trader: main features

Registration as a sole trader means that you are ready to assume all responsibilities and obligations associated with the conduction of your business.

You will not have top management, and you will have to make all decisions at your own risk. At the same time, you have a number of new obligations both to the regulatory authorities of the Republic of Belarus and to your potential customers and clients.

The duties of a sole trader are specified in various regulations and instructions approved at the state level. You will be personally responsible for their implementation, so a thorough study of them is mandatory.

Do not forget that a sole trader has the right to hire no more than 3 individuals to work under a civil contract and / or a labor contract. If you plan that you will need more specialists in your activity, you need to think about registration of a private enterprise or LLC.

Registration of a sole trader: plan

If you decide to register as a sole trader, you need to contact the city or district executive committee in Minsk or another city at the place of registration of residence.

You should provide the following documents there:

An identity document (passport or, if you are not a citizen of the Republic of Belarus, residence permit);

Application for registration of a sole trader;

One or two photographs (3 cm x 4 cm);

Receipt of payment of an official fee (0.5 base value, while some categories of citizens are exempt of an official fee);

If you register a sole trader by a representative, then a representative should have a power of attorney to carry out such actions.

The next working day after the submission of documents you will receive a certificate of state registration. But this will not give you the right to conduct business yet.

You will also need to be registered at the tax office.

As for opening a bank account, it is not always necessary. If you will pay a single tax, if your volume of proceeds not exceed 1000 base value and if you will not use a cash register, the conclusion of an agreement with a bank is not a mandatory requirement.

As for obtaining licenses and special permits, this issue will be considered on a case-by-case basis, taking into account the specifics of your activity.
